Who are and what really want the Night Wolves — 'Putin's motorbiking militia'?

Leather-clad bikers "Night Wolves" were among the first motorists to cross the Kerch bridge with Russian national flags mounted on their motorbikes on May 16, 2019. This pair of parallel bridges (motorway and railway part) constructed by the Russian Federation, to connect Crimea with the mainland from the east over the Kerch Strait, is with no doubt a great and bloodless victory of the Russian Federation. In many aspects, also for the Night Wolves as builders of bridges. 
 

Who are the Night Wolves?

The faction began forming out of a mixture of rock music fans and motorcycle enthusiasts who held then-illegal rock concerts in outskirts of Moscow, in the early 1980s. These form of social activity was not allowed under the Neo-Stalinist regime and therefore they gathered only by night.

In the 1990s, the Russia's wild and dangerous decade, which are called “era of freedom” by the bunch of people around Navalni or Ksenya Sobchak, it was also a lot of innocent people who lived intimidated and robbed by common criminals who became suddenly almost completely unpunished. According to Zaldostanov: "We were Robin Hoods, and then commercial activities started — numerous tiny shops, stores — and we were protecting them as our friends, but then it became the business."

And not without reason, as he mentioned, because against the background of the decline and injustice, they acted like a gentry raiders who have their principles and can preserve them. They turned, step by step, into rebels with a cause,

“We were a protest movement back in the 80's. [...] I did not want to praise these Communists, who were then in the world of the eighties. That was bullshit! I see what they are since they speak about ideas; they say one thing [...], and live in a completely different way. [...] Who should I follow? After them? Not at all! […] The same thing is happening now, in a global sense. I'm for democracy, only if you say democracy then give the other one the right to choose and go his own way.”

Zaldostanov probably means all these know-it-alls from all this, it seems, wanting to rule for the all eternity upper class of the Western bloc, who only more and more reluctantly, still somehow tolerates any alternative to their style of governing or any alternative way of life.

“I've just seen enough, I've seen these General Secretaries, then these so-called presidents, but none of them... We were ashamed of these characters. [Putin] is the only person who has given us hope. Who makes some actions which conveys a sense of admiration and respect. Finally, the Lord has sent us such a man, of whom we are not ashamed.”

But then came the war!

The Wolves took an active part in protests by pro-Russian and anti-Maidan groups which took place in Donetsk, Luhansk and in the Crimea. After the Ukrainian Army opened fire on protesters in eastern Ukraine, the tensions escalated into the civil war. The foreign, mainly Russian volunteers troops and local insurgents were backed by the Night Wolves branches being active on the place. The task of the Night Wolves biking militia was to trace and neutralize the special Ukrainian units being active in Donetsk, behind the enemy (Russian and East-Ukrainian) lines. They proved also some reconnaissance. Since that time the Night Wolves and the Ukrainian state are irreconcilable foes.

However, with regard to other European nations, including for Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria and Germany (especially it's eastern part) their policies are quite different

They sound sometimes like progressive liberals or Swedish social democrats, asserting that different political philosophies need not stand in the way of friendly and even warm relations between the peoples at grass roots level or between whole European nations. The Night Wolves seems to be indefatigable in courting the Poles and building the bridges of understanding for the Putin's Russia political and social philosophy also among some other nations.
