A
typical one-circuit vacuum tubes radio receiver from the late 1930s.
This new radio technics meant not only technical, but also social
revolution, especially in Eastern Europe, except for Germany and
Soviet Union, where to hear broadcasting from abroad was forbidden
and severely punished by totalitarian state.

background added by the author of this article)
It
happened quite differently, but the Nazis and Communists were to
blame, not the great Marshal Joseph Pilsudski, right?
But
was really the Hitler-Stalin Pact the cause for the Joe's
appointment of the three big mouths in the capacity of his
successors, who let themselves be exploited as a dog, which is rushed
on tiger and on bear, by the warmonger the lion?
This
is what the daily press wrote about it
“The
editorial of the «Gazeta
Polska»
(the main governmental newspaper of that time), which takes a stand
against
the panic
that characterizes domestic life for a long time, considering these
panic waves as mainly caused by recurring rumors of an imminent
overthrow, is receiving with lively attention in political circles”
This
briefly presented by the Polish-German Socialists' newspaper
editorial
of the leading government's daily,
the considerations of the editor Ipohorski-Lenkiewicz, printed in the
issue of January 4, were discussed. The original title was: The
subject of the twelve o'clock.
The made therein allegations led to sharp
criticism
on the part of the national-democratic and left opponents
of
the R.O.P.
Sanitation (Polish: sanacja) regime.
The
aforementioned newspaper takes a stand against these rumors, writing,
among others: «Some
peopłe claim that we are on the eve of a red Marxist
revolution,
or the takeover of power by some people's front. Others again that an
anti-Semitic,
nationalist, or national-radical revolution is approaching.» The
mentioned editorial harshly opposes these rumors and points out that
any revolution can only be directed against the government.”
The
last claim was a blatant testimony to the poverty of thought and the
almost boundless stupidity of sanitators. An exactly
opposite opinion,
based on the multiple experiences of revolutions and civil wars,
including the at this time still not defeated communist-anarchist
revolution in Spain, was correct. For that reason, as well as owing
to the increasingly
dangerous international situation,
the fate of the Second
Republic of Poland was
sealed. I'm afraid the history
is repeating itself,
and this truth is an highly undesirable inconvenience for government
and for the interest groups whose campaign contributions indeed
control government.
Some
further considerations of editor Ipohorski
“The
current government, however, does not show the slightest tendencies
that can serve the malcontents as justification
for an armed coup.
Under the address of the nationalists and other circles dissatisfied
with Beck's policy, «Gazeta Polska» is guiding the assurance: «The
government does not sell Poland to Jews or to Germany.» To the
Socialists and the Peasant Party, the paper raises the question of
whether the current domestic
policy
should be judged as somehow aimed against at the working class?
These
considerations lead to the assurance
that no totalitarianism threatens the Polish state,
no one is thinking about an outlawing of existing political parties
or the abolition of the current constitution, which is, after all,
essentially democratic. However, on the other hand, nobody should
think about returning to the fatal collusion that took place before
the May coup.”

die Diktaturpsychose, “Lodzer
Volkszeitung”, 6. Januar 1938, S. 2)
Answer
of the oppositional ND movement's press
“The
patriotic part of Polish society does
not want an armed overthrow
because it knows that any such overthrow is a disaster for the
country, but it hopes that those responsible for the current state of
affairs in Poland will disappear from the political stage soon.
Everyone understands that, only they do not want to understand
themselves this truth. They are defending their high posts and are
always inventing new justifications to carry on their power almost
unrestrictedly. But
at some point there will come a moment when it turns out that
they
can not bear the tremendous sole responsibility involved.”
Some
words which proved to be a prophecy
From
the contents of this editorial and its criticism was also clear that
the R.O.P. Sanitation regime was able to
move with a policy of redistribution of land, money and privileges to
a part of the society,
and persuade a section of society to defect to side of the governing
political camp. The
regime leaders took advantage
of the hopeless division of its political opponents and successfully
prevented a scenario of all discontent people pouring into the
streets, virtually all of them and at the same time. Moreover, any
credible proposals to replace the existing order with a new one,
which could lead to a rapid solution of the most urgent problems of
the state and the Polish people, as well as the numerous national
minorities, were missing.
The
worst thing of all was that the ruling camp did not had such a
program, either in foreign or internal politics too. This country was
heading
straight to the catastrophe,
as a result of which the worst predictions about the arrival of as
brown as well the red totalitarianism on Polish soil came true. In
the year 1938 there was still time to avoid an unbelievable disaster
of almost whole nation. Besides, a remarkable event occurred during
the first months of this year, as the Hungarian government took a
much more realistic approach in international affairs.
